Bellator 64 last night featured a welterweight title fight, a featherweight semi-final and bantamweight quarter-finals in a show that was to produce a series of main card fights that would be decided on the judges scorecards.
In the main event Ben Askren successfully defended his welterweight belt by claiming a dominant unanimous decision victory over Douglas Lima.
Askren used his superior grappling abilities to control Lima on the ground for long spells of this five rounder, though while Lima never looked like getting out from under him, neither did Askren look like finishing him.
Earlier Marlon Sandro booked his place in the featherweight final with a close split decision win over Alexandre Bezerra in what proved to be a stand-up battle.
Finally, both Travis Marx and Hiroshi Nakamura moved on to the bantamweight semi-finals with unanimous decision victories over Masakatsu Ueda and Rodigo Lima respectively.
