Never afraid to speak his mind, Strikeforce fighter and color commentator Frank Shamrock had less than glowing things to say about the promotion’s current middleweight champion Jake Shields who is expected to sign with the UFC in the near future.

“If the guy wants to leave, let him leave.  I mean he sucks as a fighter, he’s terribly boring.  We’re in the business of sports entertainment.  If your not going to be [an] entertaining fighter you should move on, that’s my personal opinion.”

I like Overeem…but putting him as one of the top 5 fighters in the world is over the top, especially considering A. Silva or Brock Lesnar weren’t said before him.
Talk about bitter though. Strikeforce is making a mistake betting on Hendo instead of Shields and letting go of a champion like that-calling him ‘terribly boring’ is just a parting jab, but odd considering he’s a big fan of GSP at the same time. I’m sick of hearing about the Shamrocks, they never have anything positive to say or add to the sport anymore.

That’s Frank Shamrock for you, definitely the most biased color commentator in MMA. I don’t agree with him on the top 5, but despite not being a big fan of much of what he has to say there is an element of truth to his views on Shields. I don’t find him particularly exciting to watch either, but competitively he’ll be an interesting addition to the UFC’s 170lb division. I think his weakness in the stand-up department will catch up with him eventually though.

I’m not the biggest Shields fan myself, and a hilarious matchup would be to put him in there with Fitch right away. It’s just funny he labels GSP as the best when his and Shields styles arent far apart.
Is it a coinicidence there are so many dominant wrestlers in the WW division right now? Hughes, GSP, Kos, Fitch, Shields, etc.?

No doubt about it Eric, Shields Vs Fitch would be Olympic caliber ‘Lay And Pray’!

There are a heck of a lot of 170lb wrestlers. Ben Askren’s another one – he might win Bellator’s welterweight tournament tomorrow night. I’m assuming that it’s a coincidence, but there may be more to it than that. It’s only going to become more prevalent in the years to come for all weight classes since it’s been so successful for champions likes GSP and Lesnar in the UFC, Shields and more recently King Mo in Strikeforce, etc.
